New Zealand Working Holiday Visa Health Requirements
There are certain health requirements that you must meet to be eligible for the New Zealand working holiday visa scheme.
These are designed to ensure that people entering New Zealand are of an acceptable standard of health.
Health Requirements for New Zealand Work Visas
The New Zealand Government will require further information if you are currently suffering, or have ever suffered from any of the following conditions:
- Blood Disorder
- Cancer
- Heart Disease
- Hepatitis B or C
- HIV Infection, including AIDS
- Kidney Disease, including Dialysis
- Liver Disease
- Mental Health Problems*
- Respiratory Problems*
* That have required hospital treatment in the past.
If you have or have ever had any of those conditions, the New Zealand Government will require further information to decide if you are of an acceptable standard of health. This could include medical examinations and reports.
They decide each case on an individual basis, but if you suffer from a condition that requires a lot of expensive support (eg. Dialysis), you are unlikely to meet the New Zealand visa health requirements.
Additional Health Requirements
You will also automatically be required to have a medical examination and submit chest x-rays if you have spent a period of time in any country that is not considered to be at low risk of Tuberculosis (TB). This also applies if you have had TB or come into close contact with anyone who has had TB. If you currently have TB you will unfortunately be unlikely to meet the New Zealand visa health requirements.
If there is a high chance that you may need hospital care, residential care, costly disability services or costly medication, you are likely to fail the visa health requirements.
Please Note: You will automatically be required to provide medical certificates to prove that they are an acceptable standard of health if you apply to stay in New Zealand for longer than twelve months.
