The visa allows travel to Australia on the basis of your relationship when your partner is an Australian citizen or permanent resident. It will allow you to live and work in Australia until a decision is made on your permanent visa.
You will be required to supply evidence of your relationship to support your application including:
- Proving knowledge of each other’s personal circumstances
- Financial evidence such as joint property commitments
- Statements/stat decs from friends/acquaintances confirming the social aspect of your relationship (stat dec forms will be supplied)
- Commitment, including the duration of your relationship, how long you have lived together and your future intentions for the relationship
- You and your partner will also be required to provide statements regarding your relationship history including details of how, where and when you first met, how your relationship developed (or when you decided to marry)
- Your domestic arrangements including how you support each other physically, emotionally and financially, when this commitment began and your plans for the future
- You will also be expected to meet certain health and character requirements
- Married applicants will be required to provide a copy of the marriage certificate
- Engaged applicants will be required to provide evidence of the upcoming marriage
The application process is made up of 2 parts:-
- Sponsorship
- Visa application
To apply, your sponsor (partner) will be responsible for financial obligations to the Australian government that may occur, ie financial support, accommodation and assisting the resettlement in Australia. You are also responsible for notifying the immigration department if the relationship should break down.
